Midrand at a glance

Midrand has often been referred to Halfway House, largely due to its geographical positioning as its situated in between the Centurion and Kyalami areas and its considered to be one of the most centrally situated places in the entire Gauteng Province. The town was established in 1981 as a municipal area of greater Johannesburg. As the new ruling party took over in 1994 the area was amalgamated into the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. The area is considered to be an epicenter of economic activity due to its proximity to various economic nodes near Johannesburg, Centurion and Pretoria and its proximity to key roadways and highways.

Midrand Is situated roughly 23.5km from the OR Tambo International Airport and it’s said to take 35 minutes travel time depending on the route. From the central business district of Johannesburg, its roughly 27km and will take roughly 32minutes depending on which route is chosen. Midrand is situated roughly 30km from the Pretoria central business district.  

Transport

Midrand has a Gautrain Station hence it’s easily accessed from all the financial epicenters of the country.  There is also a Metrobus service that runs to Midrand. One can also use the various minivan taxi services. One can also utilize the MetroRail train service or take metered taxis. 

Malls/Shopping

Some of the more popular shopping facilities in the Midrand area include Boulders Shopping Centre, Carlswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre, Kyalami on Main, San Ridge Square and Midrand City.

Transport

Due to Rivonia’s proximity to the world-class Gautrain service, they have a Gautrain bus station. Sandton also has a Metrobus transport hub with provides transport to and from Rivonia, which also includes a Metrorail train service as well. The entire greater Johannesburg area also has minivan taxis routes which connect the Sandton area.
