Irene at a glance

Irene was first established as a town in the year 1902 by a man named Johannes Albertus van der Byl and since then it has grown to be a prominent, agricultural, commercial and residential area closely approximated to Pretoria or Tshwane. It's situated within what is called Centurion and is under the mandate of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. The town was also the home base for the United States of America's national football team during the 2010 Fifa World Cup. 

Commercial Hotspots

The main commercial hotspot of Irene is situated in Karee Street. There one will find numerous offices, shops and businesses. Some of the companies that have made Karee Street home include Blind Street, Geosoft Africa Ltd, Sephaku Cement, Conor Solutions (Pty), Face Technologies and the Computer Foundation.

Distance from key points (Airport/CBD)

If one wishes to travel from Irene to the central business district of Pretoria it will be a 30-minute drive and is just over 20 km in distance. If ones wishes to travel from Irene to the OR Tambo International Airport it will take roughly 30 to 40 minutes and is just under 40 km in distance. If one wishes to travel from Irene to the Johannesburg central business district it will take just under an hour is just under 60 km in distance depending on which route is chosen. 

Transport

Irene's transport needs are met by numerous bus and train stations as well as the minivan taxi service that runs throughout the various epicentres of the city and country. 

Malls/Shopping

There are no shortages of great places in which to shop in Irene, some of the more popular shopping facilities include Irene Village Mall, Southdowns Shopping Centre and Olifantsfontein Shopping Centre. 

Restaurants 

Irene is full of wonderful places in which to eat and drink some of the more popular eateries include Prosopa Restuarant, Irene Farm, Village Bistro, Doppio Zero Southdowns, The Punjabian, Serendipity Restaurant, Whisk Wine Bar, Cappuccinos, The Daily Coffee Cafe and Meadow Green.
